Celebrating Thirty Years With the Twin Cities Jazz Society, February 8th at the Dakota

Please join the Twin Cities Jazz Society for their 30^th anniversary celebration at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis, on Sunday, February 8^th, 5–9 pm. The program will be hosted by jazz radio personality Maryann Sullivan and a long list of special guests, including legendary broadcaster Leigh Kamman and TCJS original board members, Dave Karr, Irv Williams and Percy Hughes.

On February 20, 1979, the Twin Cities Jazz Society held its inaugural event, drawing over 2,000 to the Prom Center in St. Paul for a membership drive and free night of music. Over the past 30 years, TCJS has served the greater metro and outstate community with concerts, school clinics and performances, student scholarships, jazz calendars, informative website, monthly Jazz Notes and (more recently) the electronic journal, CODA. The TCJS table is a fixture at most area jazz events and the TCJS booth welcomes jazz fans to the Twin Cities Jazz Festival every summer.

Among scheduled performers at the February 8^th celebration will be Yolande Bruce (Moore By Four), singing a special tribute to her mother, the late Roberta Davis, who performed at the TCJS inaugural event. Music throughout the evening will be provided by a quartet featuring Mary Louise Knutson (piano), Doug Haining (reeds), Graydon Peterson (bass), and Jay Epstein (drums), with scheduled soloists singers Judi Donaghy, Dorothy Doring, Lee Engele, Arne Fogel, Maud Hixson, Gregg Marquardt, Charmin Michelle, Vicky Mountain, Lucia Newell, and Christine Rosholt, trumpeter Kelly Rossum, and more! There will be door prizes and other surprises!

Tickets (available at the door) for the TCJS Birthday Party are $10 ($7 TCJS members and students); no A-Train discount or passes.
