The information on this page refers to health insurance policies starting in 2025. If you live in the UAE, please check out our information on doctors visits in the UAE.
A doctor visit is consultation you have with a doctor or specialist.
Doctor visits are different from treatment you receive in hospital: you visit a doctor as an outpatient, whereas you receive hospital treatment once you’re admitted as an inpatient or daypatient.
We have a guide that goes into more detail about the differences between outpatient and inpatient treatment.
Doctors visits can be in person (i.e. you have an appointment at a clinic or surgery) or over a telephone or video call.
We cover the following types of doctor visits and related treatment:
Bronze
SilverLite
Silver
Gold
If you need more than 6 physiotherapy sessions, we need a medical report from your doctor.
The cover you have is different on each plan:
The overall maximum limit to the amount you can claim for treatment you receive as an outpatient during any one policy year.
You are not eligible for the higher limits on SilverLite if you do not select Option A or Option B.
Up to US$5,000 or £3,300 or €3,750 per policy per year
Option A
Up to US$7,500 or £5,000 or €5,625 per policy per year
Option B
Up to US$10,000 or £6,600 or €7,500 per policy per year
Consultations with a GP, doctor, or specialist. Consultations can be in-person or via technology (e.g. video or phone call)
We cover COVID-19 PCR and Antigen testing when you have symptoms such as cough or fever or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Tests must be prescribed by a doctor and undertaken under medical supervision in a recognised medical facility.
Up to US$1,500 or £1,000 or €1,125 per policy per year (up to the annual limit for outpatient treatment)
Up to US$2,500 or £1,665 or €1,875 per policy per year (up to the annual limit for outpatient treatment)
Up to US$3,500 or £2,310 or €2,625 per policy per year (up to the annual limit for outpatient treatment)
We will also pay for the following primary medical care costs:
If you’re resident in Hong Kong, our benefits for doctor visits work differently. See the FAQs below for more information.
It’s important that you know what isn’t covered in your plan. If you have any questions about coverage, please call one of our policy advisors for help.
Here’s a breakdown of how cover for doctor visits works in each of our plans:
With the Bronze plan, you have full cover for doctor visits that you receive in the 90-day period following your discharge from hospital for inpatient or daypatient treatment.
This typically means follow-up consultations, imaging tests, and other treatments that you on an outpatient basis once you’ve been discharged from hospital.
As standard, the SilverLite plan has an annual limit of US$5,000 for outpatient treatment. This means that we’ll cover all the outpatient cover we described above, up to US$5,000.
Within this annual limit, there’s a further sublimit for primary medical care. We’ll cover your primary medical care expenses up to US$1,500 per policy year.
You can choose to increase your annual limit for outpatient treatment and further sublimit for primary medical care.

You have full cover up to your annual plan limit on the Silver plan.
You have full cover up to your annual plan limit on the Gold plan.
We’ve made it as easy as possible for you to claim for doctor visits, and you can call one of our policy advisors at any time for help.
We ask you to pay the bill for your outpatient treatment yourself, then claim back your expenses from us later. This practice is sometimes called ‘pay and claim’, or ‘reimbursement claiming’.

If you live in Hong Kong, your benefits for outpatient treatment are different:
No, we don’t provide you with a telemedicine service that gives you virtual access to doctors and specialists. We do, however, cover consultations you have with a doctor or specialist via phone or video call.
Yes, if you have an excess on your policy.
No, we do not cover home visits by a doctor.
Global health insurance (also known as international private medical insurance) gives you access to private healthcare around the world.
While most domestic health plans only cover you in one country, international health plans cover you in multiple (or even all) countries. They’re great for people who live and work abroad, or who spend lots of time travelling. Some international medical plans also include emergency medical evacuation cover so you can access urgent treatment even if it’s not available in your location.
All the benefits on this webpage are per member per policy year, unless we state otherwise. We show the benefit limits in US dollars, but we can also denominate your policy in pounds sterling or Euros. You won’t find complete information for our plans on this webpage, nor the full T&Cs, limitations, and exclusions that would apply if you purchase a health insurance policy. You can find complete information in the plan agreement, which we suggest you read together with this webpage. We work hard to ensure the information we provide on this webpage is accurate and up-to-date, but inaccuracies are possible. We rectify errors as soon as we become aware of them. The T&Cs that apply to your policy are those found in your plan agreement.
