Are there any countries where I cannot buy income protection?

There are certain countries where we cannot provide income protection insurance. Please note that the rules are slightly different for new members and existing members.

You can’t purchase income protection with us if you live in one of the countries or regions listed below.

United Kingdom, Iran, Libya, North Korea, South Sudan, Switzerland, Syria, Yemen, United States of America, Venezuela, Lebanon, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Israel, Palestinian territories.

Our online quote tool won’t give you a quote if you select on of these countries as your countries of residence.

If you’re already a member with William Russell
If you already have income protection insurance with William Russell, we can’t renew your policy when you move to one of the following countries.

Iran, Libya, North Korea, South Sudan, Switzerland, Syria, Yemen, United Kingdom.

Our policies are annual, so at the end of your policy year we’ll cancel your policy and we won’t offer you a renewal policy.

Why are there problems with purchasing income protection in these countries?
For some of these countries, the reasons are obvious. Sanctions prevents us from providing insurance to people in countries like Iran and Libya. You might wonder, however, why we cannot provide insurance to people living in the UK and USA. Those are seemingly safe countries, after all! For those two countries, the reason is compliance. Their governments place requirements on income protection that our policies don’t meet.
