The funeral costs & repatriation benefit is optional insurance cover designed to ease the financial and logistical burden on your loved ones if you die while living and working abroad.

The benefit covers you for:

  • Funeral expenses (helping to cover the costs of burial or cremation)
  • Repatriation costs (ensuring your remains can be transported to your home country, if that’s your wish)

Designed for expats, our funeral costs & repatriation benefit gives you worldwide cover—so no matter where you are, you can have peace of mind knowing your final wishes can be respected.

Why is the funeral costs & repatriation benefit useful?

Losing a loved one is difficult enough without the added stress of managing funeral arrangements in a foreign country.

  • Funeral costs vary significantly across countries, and in some locations, they can be unexpectedly high. Having insurance in place ensures that families are not left with a financial burden.
  • International repatriation can be expensive, often costing thousands of dollars, depending on the country and required procedures.
  • Local customs and laws can be complex, making it difficult for families to navigate funeral arrangements from abroad. Some providers may offer support with logistics, reducing stress during an already difficult time.
  • Families may prefer to hold the funeral in their home country, surrounded by relatives and loved ones, rather than in the country where the expat was living.
Lee Doran, Underwriting Manager at William Russell
“The funeral costs & repatriation benefit ensures that your main life insurance benefit is fully dedicated to supporting your loved ones—whilst having the peace of mind that the costs of your funeral arrangements are covered.”
